Art history
Having been introduced to art as a young child, it has been a part of my life as long as I can remember. Specifically, I became interested in painting in my teen years and periodically pursued this through young adulthood. Around 2000 I began taking art classes at UAB Special Studies and after the close of that program, continued classes through the Samford after Sundown Program. I look for any opportunity to expand my knowledge through workshops, online instruction and plein air painting groups.
Style
Impressionistic Landscapes, seascapes, simple objects. I’m most comfortable with impressionistic landscapes, however since I’ve been doing commission work, I’ve explored everything from abstracts to mixed media. I hope I never stop growing as an artist.
Inspiration
My father, Ron Bowen was my greatest influence. He was a portrait painter in the 60’s and continued on teaching hand tinting techniques at UAB Special Studies along with photography. We visited museums, galleries and art openings for as long as I can remember. My exposure to this cultivated and trained my artistic eye to recognize light, composition, interest and color impact. We spent many hours together doing anything creative. In regard to local artists, I have always admired the work of Arthur Price and John Lonergan and consider them both an influence in my work.
